Officials respond to claims of eye problems following Trump rally in Tucson

TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) – The city of Tucson has responded after multiple media outlets reported that several attendees at Donald Trump’s rally suffered eye pain or injuries.

Former President Donald Trump was in Tucson on September 12 to host a rally at Linda Ronstadt Music Hall.

After the event, about six people who sat on the stage behind Trump claimed they had eye problems.

According to the Daily Beast, at least one person sought medical help “unbearable pain”.

In the NY Post story, as well as local reports, the same participant claimed that a nurse asked her if she had been sprayed with chemicals.

The Tucson Police Department and Tucson Fire Department said they had received no complaints “of any type of eye injuries or facial burns as described in some media reports.”

The city said there are no police reports on the issue.

A city spokesman said one theory is that people who complained their eyes were actually affected by the bright flashes used on stage.

“Event attendees who sat on the stage were reportedly looking directly at the lighting,” the city said.

The city also said stage lights in the Linda Ronstadt Music Hall were not used and that “lighting was provided and installed by campaign event organizers through a private company.”

13 News has reached out to one of the participants about the matter and will update this story.

TFD responded to more than 40 heat-related calls before and after Trump spoke. At least 10 people had to be transported to local hospitals.

Finally, the city of Tucson said that The Music Hall’s HVAC system was upgraded in 2021 and all filters are changed four times a year.
