The Tribute of Fallen Warriors visits the town of Walker

LIVINGSTON PARISH, La. (WAFB) – A powerful tribute that reminds us of the sacrifices so many men and women have made for our freedoms has made its way to Livingston Parish.

Pastor T is one of the few volunteers installing the newest edition in Sidney Hutchinson Park. He is happy to be a part of building the 360-foot-long, eight-foot-tall traveling replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall.

“I didn’t serve, but I owe it to everyone whose name is on this wall because their actions, their dedication and their commitment allowed me to do what I did, and so I stand before those who represented me.” , Pastor T. said.

Honoring over 58,000 of them.

“When you’re standing here and you see a mother start coming down this aisle and she sees that wall with her son’s name on it, just the emotions take over and it all becomes raw and fresh again, so while I’m here, Actually, I don’t make a big deal out of it, I pray over each of those walls that I touch and I ask God to be with those families,” Pastor T explained.

While we also recognize those who are still with us today.

“Many of these boys’ names are on these walls, but many of the veterans that come in and are alive, when they came home, we spat on them, they were ridiculed, they were called baby killers, and when they saw that the city of Walker , Livingston Parish takes care of them and they are not forgotten,” said Pastor T.

He believes the best way to teach the next generation the price these service members paid is to feel it.

“When you walk up here and see this wall and recognize what it means, I think you’ll feel it,” said Pastor T. “I think you’ll feel the reverence that this wall, these people. , these families deserve it.”

You can visit the wall from now until Sunday in the park for free. On Thursday, there will be a Quilt of Valor ceremony at 10:00 a.m. Friday’s crowning ceremony will take place at 10:00 a.m. A living history timeline will be held Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. A tribute ride will begin Sunday morning at 9:30 a.m. and will be followed by a non-denominational service at 10 a.m. before leaving town.
