Former Florence City Attorney Convicted of Sexual Assault – Canon City Daily Record

Mattew Krob, the former Florence city attorney, was sentenced Tuesday to 12 years to life in prison by Douglas County Judge Natalie Stricklin after he was found guilty of nine counts, several related to a sexual assault at a 2022 Larkspur resort.

The Florence City Council fired Krob in March 2022 after a sexual assault scandal at City Hall came to light, and he became Palmer Lake’s city attorney. Krob resigned from his position at Palmer Lake in December 2022.

Krob faced the following charges in connection with the sexual assault case in late 2022:

  • two counts of sexual assault, a Class 4 misdemeanor
  • two counts of unlawful sexual contact, a Class 4 felony
  • two counts of third-degree assault, a class 1 misdemeanor
  • obstructing a telephone service, a class 1 misdemeanor
  • child abuse, a class 2 misdemeanor
  • second degree assault, a class 4 misdemeanor

According to an arrest affidavit written by Douglas County Officer Lindsey Queiser, Douglas County police responded to a physical disturbance call on Nov. 20, 2022, where an unnamed victim was discovered without pants or shoes and was wearing a white sweater with fresh blood on her.

“(Victim) was visibly upset, (victim) was crying and shaking as (victim) spoke,” the affidavit said.

The affidavit goes on to say that Krob “put his fingers in (the victim’s) mouth, in (the victim’s) nose.

The affidavit notes that Krob attended the wedding of one of his friends at Spruce Mountain Ranch in Larkspur.

Krob’s wife, whose name will not be released because she is a victim of sexual assault, spoke at Tuesday’s sentencing.

“The life that my children and I lived before Matt was arrested was truly inexplicable. I can use expressions like walking on eggshells, hypervigilance and waiting for the other shoe to drop because they are all accurate,” the victim said. “I was in survival mode. . . . He hurt my wrist badly to the point where I couldn’t go from lying down to sitting up without assistance. . . . He dragged me through the hotel suite and threw me down the hall.”

She went on to note that she maintains physical injuries, including a permanent bruise on her thigh and pain in her rib cage.

“If the kids didn’t do exactly what Matt wanted in the way he wanted, there would be consequences,” she said. “The night she attacked me in our daughter’s room and threw her against the wall… Matt was the one… who told me that none of this would have happened if her brother hadn’t taken small.”

“The sounds of my children’s screams that night, the panic, terror and fear are sounds that will haunt me for the rest of my life,” she added.

Krob’s father and brother spoke at the sentencing and embraced his good character.

“The painting they did of my brother is not and never was the person any of us knew,” said the brother, Dan Krob. “Before Matt was arrested … we were an incredibly close family. We spent weekends together, family barbecues, vacations, games, hockey, skiing, boating and spending time together.”

“There is no part of spending time with my brother so often that, one, I would have been concerned about his behavior behind closed doors in his home, and secondly, that I have since heard that he is in consistent with countless hours of close observation. his character,” he added.

Stricklin ruled Krob ineligible for a post-sentence appeal bond.
