“Nobody Wants This” Kiss Scene: Adam Brody made a key choice

“Nobody Wants This” Kiss Scene: Adam Brody made a key choice

  • Netflix’s “Nobody Wants This” stars Adam Brody and Kristen Bell as love interests.
  • Fans can’t stop talking about their characters’ first kiss during episode two.
  • Bell said it was Brody’s idea to hold her face during the scene and that it’s her best on-screen kiss.

Netflix’s new rom-com series Nobody Wants This launched just a few days ago, but the main characters’ swoon-worthy first kiss is already being heralded by fans as one of the biggest on TV.

“Nobody Wants This” stars Adam Brody as Noah Roklov, a newly single rabbi, and Kristen Bell as Joanne, an agonistic host of a sex podcast. When they first meet at a party, their chemistry is undeniable, but they can’t ignore the stark differences in their styles and ideologies.

It’s not until episode two that Noah and Joanne kiss, right after they share a friendship, because they’ve agreed that a relationship between them will never work. Although they end their date as friends, curiosity about a goodbye kiss lingers, and they go for it – after Noah firmly places her ice cream sundae on the ground and tells her to put her bag down so she’s fully prepared for now.

Noah then places his left hand on Joanne’s face and they share a passionate kiss.

“I mean, is there a world where this works?” Noah asks after the sparks fly.

“…Yes?” replies Joanne.

The kiss is easily one of the standout scenes of the 10-episode season.

“I’ve never been kissed like that and I think if I ever was, it would change my whole personality,” wrote a fan with the username @Biene__B on X.

Fans are excited not only about Brody and Bell’s chemistry, but also how Brody holds Bell’s face in many of their kiss scenes.

In interviews, Brody and Bell said the scene was daunting because it was described in the script as “the biggest kiss in the world”. They also attributed the scene’s magic to the anticipation that slowly builds before their characters actually lock lips. Bell also told MTV that Brody made a creative choice that took the kiss to the next level.

“My biggest memory is that I wasn’t ready for Adam to put his hands on my face like he did with so many kisses,” Bell said, adding that she remembered hearing some of the crew members gasp. “And I was like, ‘Oh, that’s going to work.’

In an interview with TVLine, Bell also said the scene was “probably the best on-screen kiss I’ve ever done.”

“Nobody Wants That” creator Erin Foster, whose life inspired the series, told Entertainment Weekly that she wanted the characters to “have a really cool and playful first kiss.”

“It all felt pretty natural,” Brody told EW. “There wasn’t a lot of premeditation about it.”

Brody and Bell have known each other for years and previously worked together. In various interviews, Bell has said that he knew immediately that he wanted Brody to play Noah when he read the script and got his feelings out early on.

“I said it had to be Brody because the character has to be so charming, almost annoyingly charming to pull off the role,” Bell told Extra. “And I was like, ‘Guys, you’ve got to look at Adam Brody because he’s going to be the one. I promise you”. And luckily, I convinced him to do it.”
