OKTAGON MMA’s Attila Korkmaz points to a growing German MMA scene

OKTAGON MMA’s Attila Korkmaz points to a growing German MMA scene

OKTAGON MMA Attila Korkmaz (15-8 MMA, 1-1 OKTAGON MMA) has a bigger responsibility than proving himself as one of MMA’s brightest young prospects.

In an interview with MMAKO’s Zain Bando, Korkmaz said that OKTAGON MMA’s growth and support of the international MMA scene, especially in Germany, has improved over the past ten years.

“At least in Germany, the sport is growing more and more,” said Korkmaz. “There was already an upward trend, but I feel like OKTAGON has been able to supercharge that somehow because I’m seeing more and more casuals, so to speak, being more invested in the sport. So it’s very interesting to see. be recognized everywhere in Germany, and that’s like a great thing.”

Korkmaz pointed out how each fighter is painted as an “antagonist”. especially in his experiences so far. Korkmaz competes at OKTAGON 61 in a backup bout against Agy Sardari (17-5 MMA, 0-1 OKTAGON MMA), who is looking for his first win since last November.

Meanwhile, Korkmaz enters the fray having won three of his last four. His most recent victory came in June against UFC veteran Makwan Amirkhani, finishing the fight with a rear-naked-choke.

Korkmaz said he feels comfortable wherever the fight goes, but gave credit to Sardari for his complete skill set.

“He likes to change the pace and stay variable,” Korkmaz said when describing Sardari’s fighting style. “So he’s not a one-dimensional fighter. Usually when they run into guys who are like on the athletic side or the tough guy who relies on their physique, maybe they have a few attributes. But, this is more like all – around who I face, who might try to overcome me. So this is new territory for me.

Even if Korkmaz doesn’t get the call to enter the finals as an alternate with a win, he wants to continue to show OKTAGON that he’s here to stay, he said.

“Ideally, I’d like to get back into the tournament, properly, and try to fight maybe in the final,” Korkmaz said. “But if that doesn’t happen, I mean, I still want to stay active. I want to stay active and showcase my skills and create spur-of-the-moment shows to entertain the fans and make it all interesting. You know, not only for me, but for the fans and all the people around me. There’s always something to look forward to, like a fight and after this tournament, if he’ll continue with OKTAGON or if some other organization wants to rip off. me, that at the end of the day depends on my management and the offers we get.”

Korkmaz competes as part of an 11-fight card Saturday on DAZN beginning at noon ET/9 am PT in the US
