The laundry project makes its first-ever stop in Michigan to help families in need

LANSING, Mich. (WILX) – The Laundry Project held a free laundry day at Wave Max laundry mat in south Lansing on Saturday.

The Laundry Project is a national project that works with 21 states across the US It helps people and families nationwide by giving out free laundry detergent, fabric softener, dryer sheets, and washers and dryers to help them save money.

“Oftentimes, people come in with a little bit of hesitation. Wondering what’s going on,” said Jason Sowell the founder and CEO of Laundry Project. “They want to know what we’re selling them usually but once they kind of get past that on the way out oftentimes people are much happier, they feel a little sense of relief because that financial burden is gone. They’re able to wash maybe a lot more than they expected to begin with, and oftentimes, we hear stories like Man, now I can put gas in my car, or now I can buy some groceries. Or, I wasn’t expecting to be able to buy anything, so that’s all part of that hope for us is that one little thing can change the course for someone.”
