Inclusive swimming program launched in Perham for families with special needs – InForum

PERHAM, Minn. — Perham Area Community Center goes inclusive with more swim sessions for people with special needs.

Starting on October 12, there will be sensory swimming sessions held every Saturday morning between 10am and 11am.

This idea comes after they hired their new aquatics director, Betsy Foltz, in July. She has been a paraprofessional at Perham Elementary for the past 8 years.

The therapy pool is already being used for families to enjoy swimming in warmer water, but Foltz says more was needed.

She says this new program will create a calm and peaceful environment with lifeguards and hopes to expand the program in the future.

“I’d love to add Saturday hours if it’s popular. We will extend the time that it would be available and if needed we may add a few days during the week where evenings might be an option,” Foltz. say.

The program will be free for members, but guests will be charged the daily rate.
