Recruitment raid draws more health workers

Guy Barnett, Minister for Health, Mental Health and Wellbeing

The Tasmanian Liberal Government has expanded its health recruitment drive into Queensland and NSW as we continue to make every move to grow our state’s health workforce.

This week, full-page ads ran in The Courier Mail, The Sydney Morning Herald and The Daily Telegraph, asking health workers to move to Tasmania and take advantage of all our state has to offer.

Health, Mental Health and Wellbeing Minister Guy Barnett said this is further evidence that the Tasmanian Government is doing everything possible to recruit more workers into our health system.

“Under our Strong 2030 Plan for Tasmania’s Future, we have already recruited more than 660 new health workers – but we want to recruit even more,” Minister Barnett said.

“We are conducting the biggest ever health worker recruitment blitz in Tasmania’s history and following our raid on health workers made redundant by the Victorian Labor Government, we are expanding our horizons.

“These new full-page masthead newspaper ads send a clear message to health workers in New South Wales and Queensland – we want you in Tassie.

We argue that with significant financial incentives on the table up to $15,000 for nurses, and $100,000 for family doctors – not only to bring them here, but to keep them here.

“There is no doubt that Tasmania is the best place to live, work and raise a family and we will continue to promote our state to the nation and the world as we build the health workforce it has need Tasmania.

“Under our Government, there are set to be even more nurses, doctors, paramedics and more – and as we implement our strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future 2030, I look forward to bringing more positive updates.”
