A Russian foreign ministry spokesman said a strike on a key bridge in Russia’s Kursk region was likely carried out using a US-made HIMARS missile system.

“For the first time, the Kursk region was hit by Western-made missiles, probably American Himar,” wrote Maria Zakharova on Telegram.

“As a result of the attack on the bridge over the Seim River in the Glushkovsky district, it was completely destroyed, and the volunteers assisting the evacuated civilians were killed,” she added.

Ukrainian Air Force Commander Mykola Oleshchuk shared images that appear to show the strike in another social media post, writing: “Ukrainian warships are conducting precision strikes against enemy strongholds, equipment concentrations, as well as logistics centers and enemy supply. routes.”

In a separate post on Sunday, Oleshchuk shared images that appeared to show a strike on another bridge in the Kursk region.

“One more bridge down,” he wrote in the text accompanying the video.

Oleshchuk did not specify the exact location of the bridge, but several reports say it happened across the Seim River in Svannoe.

The bridges were key to Russian supply lines, which Ukraine actively targeted.

In an address to the nation on Friday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said the country’s forces were focused on impeding Russian logistics and military reserves.

“We need to inflict maximum damage on all Russian positions and we are doing that,” he added.

The strikes on the bridges came as part of a wider cross-border offensive launched by Ukraine last week – a move that surprised both Russia and the West.

As Ukraine continues to push deeper into Russia, it has said it is not interested in “grabbing territory.”
