City of Bridgeport plans to raise water rates

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va (WDTV) – The city of Bridgeport plans to raise water rates by about 22 percent soon.

In a letter sent to residents Thursday, officials said the increased rates will allow the city to meet increased operating and maintenance expenses.

Rates would increase for residential customers by 22 percent, which is about $7.40 per 3,400 gallons used monthly. Commercial and industrial customers would see similar increases of close to 22 percent as well.

Those rates would go into effect 45 days after city council enactment, with additional increases of 6, 5 and 5 percent planned annually between 2025 and 2027.

The local council will hold public hearings to receive feedback on the rate increase, which will take place on September 16 and 23 at City Hall. The council will then vote on the increase after the 23rd.
