Cheyenne, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) – United States Attorney General Merrick B. Garland met with Acting United States Attorney for the District of Wyoming Eric Heimann and many local law enforcement agencies across the state on August 13th.

The topic of this meeting, as heard during Attorney General Garland’s opening remarks, touched on violent crime across the country.

After a short presentation, AG Garland gave his views on what needs to happen next to tackle violent crime.

“The thing that we learned then and we’re employing now is the importance of our partnerships, the need for all federal law enforcement to work together and to work together with state, local and tribal law enforcement is the only way to that we are going to solve these types of problems, we know that progress in communities is uneven and we also know that no amount of violent crime is acceptable, so if anything we would step up our efforts and continue to work together to fighting the scourge that plagues every one of our communities,” says AG Garland.

However, AG Garland says we have seen good results in terms of crime numbers.

He states that “last year saw both the lowest violent crime rate and the largest drop in homicides in 50 years nationally, and based on the data so far this year, we’re seeing big reductions every year in comparison”.

AG Garland also took it upon himself to thank the Department of Justice for its work in the state this year.

He also personally thanked the many people in the room for the work they do to help keep communities safe.

“These examples are just a snapshot of the work this office does every day to fulfill the Department of Justice’s mission to keep our community safe, protect civil rights, and uphold the rule of law. I’m very proud of our new Acting U.S. Attorney (Eric Heimann), and all the men and women in this office and I are equally proud of the partnerships they’ve fostered with all the people around the stable who do the hard work in every day and who risk their lives every day to protect people. from Wyoming”.
