South Florida children’s book writer will bring holiday cheer to military families

MIAMI — This is sure to get you in the holiday spirit and make you “Miami Proud.”

An upcoming film adaptation of the children’s book “POMP, SNOW, and CIRQUEumstance” will now come to life on the big screen. All to help military families away from home feel at home on vacation.

“What we do every few weeks is we bring in artists from all over the world. We shoot in front of a green screen, we shoot in front of the LEDs, the animated characters from the book that pop off the pages. and then the real-life performers on stage in front of the camera,” said Neil Goldberg.

Goldberg, who wrote the book and produced the show, grew up in a military family. So it is his passion to give back, especially to children.

“I was one of those kids looking for outlets that weren’t necessarily there when I needed them,” he said. “So anything I can do to help spark young people’s imaginations, I’m passionate about.”

Artists and performers travel from all over the world to bring these characters to life.

The Goldbergs have an ongoing relationship with armed force entertainment — they’ve been sending artists to bases for live readings and children’s shows for years.

“They make sure kids and families on bases around the world are entertained and can celebrate like we do at home,” he said. “What we don’t think about are all these families who have their children on military bases and are isolated sometimes in remote parts of the world – so this is a really special contribution to my heart”

Since the performers can’t travel to the bases this year, kids who love the book will be able to watch and be inspired on the big screen.

“The biggest reward I’ve gotten is the letters and notes from kids on military bases after they read the book after they’ve seen the show, they draw pictures of what I’ve created,” Goldberg said.

Filming begins on October 1st and hits the big screen in December.
