JD Vance won’t apologize to Miss USA contestant he insulted to mock Kamala Harris

JD Vance he refuses to apologize for trying to mockKamala Harris of posting an embarrassing clip of a teenage beauty pageant contestant struggling to answer a question – even after finding out the subject of the video once contemplated suicide.

Thursday eveningof Donald Trump the long-embattled running mate posted a video on social media Thursday that he “jokingly” claimed was the full Harris CNN interview.

The video was from 2007 and featured the Miss Teen USA contestantCaitlin Upton tries and fails ― to explain why some Americans supposedly can’t find the US on a map.

Vance’s post was widely condemned, with many people noting that Upton fought off the public ridicule and later admitted thatshe was thinking about suicide as a result of the whole experience.

However, the incident caught the attention of Trump’s modeling agency, which later signed Upton to a contract.

During a CNN interview on Friday, host John Berman asked Vance if he was aware of Upton’s mental health struggles since the video went viral.

Vance admitted he had no idea and added, “MrYour heart goes out to her and I hope she’s doing well.”

He then explained that it was “said a lot of stupid things on camera’ and ‘sometimes when you’re in the public eye you make mistakes’.

He added that he believes the best way to cope “is to laugh at ourselves, laugh at this stuff and try to have a bit of fun in politics”.

Vance then noted that while he posted “a meme from 20 years ago,” he believes that “the fact that we’re talking about this instead of American families not being able to afford food or health care, young families not being able to afford . to buy a house in which to raise their families. These are the real crises we should be focusing on.”

He then reiterated that he posted the video to make Americans laugh again.

“And there’s nothing that says we can’t tell a few jokes along the way as we go about the very serious business of getting our public policy back on track,” he said.

He continued:

“Politics has become far too bad, John, far too boring. You can have a little fun while making a good argument with the American people about how you’re going to make their lives better.”

Berman asked Vance if he would like to apologize “given what you’ve learned now.”

Vance refused, saying: “John, I’m not going to apologize for posting a joke, but I wish Caitlin the best.”

You can watch the entire exchange below.

Upton responded that Vance resurfaced the video Friday morning with a post on X, formerly Twitter.

“It’s a shame that 17 years later this is still being discussed. Not much to say about it at this point. Regardless of political persuasion, one thing I do know is that social media and online bullying has to stop,” she said.

Other people weren’t impressed with Vance’s refusal to apologize or his entire CNN interview.

And, yes, they had thoughts.
