Angelina Jolie starts crying during 8-minute standing ovation for ‘Maria’ at Venice Film Festival

Angelina Jolie cried after receiving an eight-minute standing ovation after the world premiere of her new film, “Maria,” at the Venice Film Festival in Italy on Thursday.

The “Tomb Raider” actress was seen turning away from the cheering audience as she tried to hide her tears at the Sala Grande Theater in videos circulating on social media.

Jolie, 49, wiped away watery eyes as she became emotional and even used her hand to cover her face several times.

The Academy Award winner nodded gracefully and smiled at the crowd as she fought back tears as the film’s director, Pablo Larraín, helped her up the stairs from the theater.

Audience members were seen standing and cheering as they applauded the actress for at least eight solid minutes, according to reports.

Jolie looked stunning in a chic off-the-shoulder champagne dress and a fur coat adorned with a sparkling vintage brooch.

Social media users flooded X with supportive reactions to Jolie’s sobs at the event.

“She’s a magnificent woman ,” one fan gushed to X

“What an absolute goddess !!!,” a second person cheered.

“She’s the woman,” wrote a third.

The “Maleficent” star portrays Greek opera singer Maria Callas in the biographical drama.

Ahead of the event, Jolie paid tribute to Callas by attending a photo call wearing a Cartier Panthère pin that belonged to the legendary soprano.

“I chose not to copy (Maria’s) looks because they are hers and her Venetian rugs were amazing, so I gave her a little nod – in a different way,” she told Vogue, adding: “You can imagine how special it is. was to wear a piece of jewelry that was hers.”

The humanitarian also honored her memory earlier in the day wearing a Grecian-style brown Saint Laurent dress, which nodded to Callas’ on-stage costumes with its draped style.

Her well-received performance has already inspired Oscar buzz, according to several publications including Variety and The New York Times.

In 2000, Jolie won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Interrupted Girl. Nine years later, she received an Oscar nomination for Best Actress for her role in the 2008 crime drama Changeling.
