Tulsa King had a sex scene with Sylvester Stallone, many found it disgusting, but the actress always defended it

Sylvester Stallone was celebrated as one of the era-defining action heroes of the 70s and 80s. With Rocky and Rambo franchise, created two distinct heroes that redefined the genre. The films were iconic along with the titular characters, and Stallone also led other successful action franchises that he created.

Stallone transitioned to feature-length storytelling with Taylor Sheridan King Tulsa. His role as an aging criminal who wants to establish a new empire in Tulsa won the audience applause. However, his character’s relationship with Andrea Savage’s character received some criticism, especially their love scene. However, Savage defended the scene for hilariously calling out the elephant in the room, which is rarely addressed.

Sylvester Stallone played Dwight Manfredi, an Invernizzi family capo in Taylor Sheridan’s film. King Tulsa. The series details his efforts to start a new criminal empire in the area with his new associates. The group also faces several adversaries along the way, including ATF agents. Actress Andrea Savage played one of the agents and even got close to him at the beginning of the series.

The duo flirt with each other and even have sex, with Savage’s character unaware that Stallone is on the wrong side of the law. She slowly realizes who Dwight is and even his real age (he’s 75), which horrifies her. Savage’s character directly confronts Dwight about his age, and the scene is one of the most remarkable of the entire series. However, some viewers found their relationship and the scene awkward and awkward due to the age difference between the two actors (27).

What fans failed to realize was that the point of the scene was to highlight that aspect. In an interview with Vulture, Savage revealed that she and writer Terence Winter frequently discussed the scene and both felt it needed to be on the show. Winter also points out that the scene sarcastically addresses the criticism fans have had. they said,

Terry and I talked about it when we got the script. It had to be there, you know? I couldn’t let it be one of those moments because it drives me crazy too… Sly actually talks about it. He loves the idea that he can’t believe he’s 75 years old. He’s as shocked as she is, in some ways. He certainly doesn’t look like he’s 75 or act like he’s 75. He has the gait of a 35-year-old.

The scene is really hilarious, as Stallone’s character himself doesn’t believe he’s 75, while Savage’s character is shocked by the revelation. The whole scenario is handled in such a darkly comic yet brilliant manner that creates the animosity that develops between them.

Sylvester Stallone has a lot of experience as a writer and producer, in addition to acting and directing acclaimed films. Thus, his multifaceted personality helped create King Tulsa and made important changes to his character that improved the story. Writer Terence Winter is in awe of his incredible writing talent.

In an interview with Indiewire, Winter revealed that none of the changes Stallone made were to make his character cooler or get more screen time. The changes he suggested were only for what felt right for the character, and Winter was extremely pleased with how much Rambo the star took care of the material. he said,

It’s great when they’re good at it – when you’re with actors who know (write) well. None of the changes (Stallone) suggested were born out of, “This doesn’t make me look cool, I want to look cooler.” It was all about, “This is right for the character.” (…) It was really refreshing to work with someone who only cares about the material.

Stallone is set to return for season 2 of King Tulsa along with Martin Starr, Jay Will, Max Casella, Vincent Piazza, Tatiana Zappardi, Annabella Sciorra, Domenick Lombardozzi, Andrea Savage, Garrett Hedlund and Dana Delany.

The new season will premiere on Paramount+ on September 15, 2024.
