KANSAS CITY — Law enforcement officials are investigating a weekend homicide in Kansas.

Just after 4 p.m. Saturday, police responded to the report of shots fired at a vehicle in the 300 block of Maple Boulevard, according to KCPD Capt. Jake Becchina. The car fled the scene of the shooting.

Moments later, officers responded to Smart and Bales avenues on reports of a shooting, and first responders located the two men who had been shot, according to Sheriff Daryl Forte.”

A victim was found unresponsive in the car. He was identified as 22-year-old David C. Crowell, according to Becchina. Crowell was pronounced dead at the scene. The other man was outside the vehicle. EMS transported him to a local hospital.

Detectives have made progress in identifying subjects of interest and will later work with prosecutors to share the findings of their investigations to determine any charges, according to Becchina.
