Queen Margrethe II made a big decision as she canceled all major engagements after injuring her neck and fracturing her hand.

A significant update on her health was recently provided by the former queen of Denmark, who abdicated as monarch in January.

The news was confirmed in a statement by Lene Balleby, head of communications for the Royal House of Denmark.

She said: “Her Majesty Queen Margrethe was discharged from the Royal Hospital today and is now back at her home at Fredensborg Castle.

The statement added: “Queen Margrethe was hospitalized on Wednesday evening after a fall, which unfortunately caused injuries around the vertebrae in her neck as well as a fractured left hand.”

Lene continued: “As a result of that unfortunate fall, her left hand is now in plaster and the Queen will have to wear it for the next few months and a stiff collar.”

“Queen Margrethe is in good spirits and, under the circumstances, well, but will still be on sick leave for an extended period,” it said in a statement.

She said: “It also means that the Queen’s attendance at a number of events has been canceled over the next period.”

A post on social media said: “Her Majesty Queen Margrethe was discharged from Rigshospitalet today and has now returned home to Fredensborg Palace.”

Notably, the Queen decided to abdicate after undergoing “extensive back surgery” in February 2023.
