True Colors Acquires ‘The Family’ Ahead of Venice Horizons Premiere

True Colors has acquired international sales rights to “The Family,” directed by Francesco Costabile. The film will have its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival in the Horizons section. Variety debuts the film’s trailer (below).

“The Family” is a dark melodrama that weaves together elements of psychological thriller and social commentary. The film follows the harrowing journey of Luigi, a young man dealing with a toxic family legacy and extremist ideologies. Based on Luigi Celeste’s autobiographical book It Won’t Be Like This Forever, the story delves into the destructive cycles of violence and the struggle for redemption.

The cast includes Francesco Gheghi, Barbara Ronchi (Marco Bellochio’s Kidnapped) and Francesco Di Leva (Mario Martone’s Nostalgia). The photography is by Giuseppe Maio and the score is by Valerio Vigliar.

“Familia” is produced by Attilio de Razza and Nicola Picone at Rome-based Tramp Limited. The co-producers are Nicola Giuliano at Indigo Film in Rome and Pierpaolo Verga at O’Groove in Naples and in association with Medusa Film.

Costabile, who previously garnered critical acclaim for his feature debut Una femmina, which premiered at the Berlinale Panorama, “continues to explore intense, character-driven narratives that challenge social norms and institutional failures,” according to a statement from presser.

“The Family” is set to debut in Italian cinemas on October 2. The film will be distributed in Italy by Medusa Film.

Other titles on the True Colors slate include Sergio Castellitto’s Fortunata, which premiered in Un Certain Regard at Cannes with Jasmine Trinca winning Best Actress. The film tells the story of a 30-year-old woman raising her daughter alone, living in a deprived suburb of Rome, while dreaming of a better life.
