Suspect arrested in 2023 fatal shooting of man

SAN JOSE – A suspect in a 2023 shooting that killed a man at a homeless camp and injured a woman has been arrested, police said Friday.

Officers arrested San Jose resident Pablo Davila-Martinez, 20, on Tuesday on suspicion of murder, said Lt. John Barg of the San Jose police in a statement. Authorities booked Davila-Martinez into the Santa Clara County Jail.

Authorities said Davila-Martinez is a suspect in a May 29, 2023, shooting that occurred around 9:50 p.m. in the area of Willow Street and Lelong Street. A woman was also injured during the shooting; Police found her after arriving at the scene. She survived.

Police later found an injured man at a homeless camp. That person, who authorities have not identified, died at the scene.

Police have not said what they believe to be the motive for the shooting.

The shooting also closed one lane of State Highway 87 for about 10 hours while police investigated.
