DeVonta Smith calls Britain Covey the light of the Eagles WR room

Britain Covey (5’8) is an inch shorter than Jake Elliott, making the third-year wide receiver the smallest player on the Eagles roster. What Covey lacks in size, he more than makes up for in leadership and optimism.

During Thursday’s press conference, DeVonta Smith praised Covey, calling him the “light” of the Eagles’ receiver room.

A highly productive player at Utah, Covey was the Eagles’ primary punt returner in 2022 after being elevated to the active 53-man roster as an undrafted rookie free agent.

In the early going, Covey had two fumbles and averaged 6.1 yards per return through the Eagles’ first five games.

In his final 15 games that season (including the playoffs), Covey increased his productivity as he became more comfortable, averaging 12.3 yards per return and no fumbles.

the former Utah wide receiver averaged the second-most yards per return in the league (14.4) in 2023.

In 17 games since 2022 with the Eagles, Covey has not recorded a catch and had just four catches for 42 yards and no touchdowns last season, but that could change in 2024 under new OC Kellen Moore.
